ROYAL CARIBBEAN TO INSTALL iPADS IN EVERY SPLENDOUR STATEROOM

Royal Caribbean International will install iPad mobile digital devices in every stateroom onboard the newly revitalized Splendour of the Seas. The touch-screen tablet will let guests access the daily Cruise Compass of events and activities as well as personal daily itineraries, including shore excursions. As part of the enhancement program, the ship received new dining concepts, entertainment options, children’s programming and technology advancements that were introduced aboard Royal Caribbean’s new Oasis-class ships.

In drydock, Freedom of the Seas received new technology enhancements, such as enhanced Wi-Fi, interactive televisions, electronic waivers for sports activities, and electronic mustering (as well as ticketing for shows later in the year) that offer greater convenience to Royal Caribbean guests on their cruise vacation.

Other Oasis-class signatures aboard Freedom of the Seas include the DreamWorks Experience, the next generation of family programming with activities and shows including the DreamWorks parade down the Royal Promenade and interactive Character Breakfasts in the Rembrandt (Liberty of the Seas) and Leonardo (Freedom of the Seas) Dining Rooms with the animation movie studio’s “celebrity” characters; 3-D movie screens in the Platinum and Arcadia Theaters, respectively, where guests can screen newly released and long-time favorite movies in 3-D, available starting next week; and outdoor LED video walls, measuring approximately 18.5 feet, overlooking the main pool area, featuring movies and entertainment programs throughout the cruise for families, friends and couples to enjoy during the day and for an evening under the stars.

Digital Wayfinding system makes it easier than ever to navigate Liberty of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas. Onboard activities, real-time updates, customized directions and routing, as well as ship factoids are at guests’ fingertips with new plasma and LCD touch-screen signs prominently placed throughout each of the ships.

The ships undergoing revitalizations in 2011 are Liberty of the Seas earlier this year, Freedom of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas in May, and Splendour of the Seas in October. Each ship will come out of service and reemerge outfitted with the most highly guest-rated features introduced on Royal Caribbean’s new Oasis-class ships. Even Oasis of the Seas, the first Oasis-class ship, now has new features with the recent addition of the DreamWorks Experience and 3-D movies which first debuted on Allure of the Seas.

SANDALS RESORTS OFFERS ALL-EXPENSES-PAID VACATIONS FOR CHILEAN MINERS

~ Sandals Resorts Partners With Jamaica Tourist Board to Provide a Caribbean Getaway to Victims and Workers of Chilean Mining Accident ~

As the Chilean Miners are reunited with their loved ones, Sandals Resorts International has embarked on a mission to provide a bit of sunshine and relaxation to those affected by the incident. The resort company has partnered with the Jamaica Tourist Board to provide miners who spent more than two months underground, along with loved ones and rescue workers, with a Luxury Included® Sandals Resorts Jamaican getaway.

The charitable initiative was announced during a press conference held in Montego Bay, Jamaica by Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett on Thursday, October 14, 2010. “This must be seen as not only an international event, but also a triumph of the human spirit,” said Gordon “Butch” Stewart, chairman of Sandals Resorts. “It is fitting and appropriate that we in Jamaica extend a loving hand to our brothers and sisters in South America who endured such a demanding ordeal, yet emerged victorious despite all odds.”

Sandals Resorts International continues to be heavily involved in charity throughout the Caribbean and the world through its charitable arm, the Sandals Foundation. The Sandals Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and represents a culmination of three decades of dedication to playing a meaningful role in the lives of various communities.

MEXICO PUTS LIMIT ON USD PURCHASES TO STEM MONEY LAUNDERING

A new Mexican law restricting USD cash purchases, effective today, restricting the ability to make purchases in USD cash of more than $100. While the number of transactions per person has not been limited, each USD cash transaction may not exceed $100 and some shops and other businesses may refuse U.S. cash purchases completely.

Visitors to Mexico who may be accustomed to purchasing goods or services with U.S. cash payments will still be able to use other forms of payment such as credit cards, debit cards, travellers cheques and Mexican pesos.

Hotels and exchange services are limited to changing USD 1,500 per person per month into Mexican pesos. Previously there had been no limit.

The new regulations are part of a new strategy by Mexican officials to combat money laundering and drug trafficking. Drugs head north while billions of dollars in cash are smuggled back into Mexico and into the pockets of drug cartels. Restricting purchases in USD will make it more difficult for drug traffickers to spend the proceeds of their cash-based crime.

Mexican authorities had originally wanted a purchase limit of USD 30 but will test the $100 limit initially.
